Bulls-Clippers Open Thread: The Bulls Play Against VDN tonight. This is a Good Thing.

Despite the fact that the Bulls are down 10-2 early, I have complete confidence VDN will do just enough stupid things to allow the Bulls to win this game. Also, let's count how many Blake Griffin-Shawn Kemp comparisons we hear during the game (1 by Stacey King, Neil Funk claims he hadn't heard that comparison before. Does he live in a cabin in the woods in between games?)

  1. Boozer just hit two shots that looked so similar I thought I had looped back or something.

  2. Blake blowing that alley-oop was kind of funny. I've been impressed so far with how diverse his offensive game is.

  3. When I saw Dick Bavetta was reffing this one, I thought "uh-oh. Who does the league want to win this game?" Looks like the Clippers so far.

  4. Crap, Asik and Taj both with 2. Going to see some early Scalabrine action?

  5. I like Stacey King's advice from Bill Cartwright to big men to cheat a little bit to protect your best player. If we liveblog a classic game from the first 3-peat, I'm definitely going to be watching Cartwright to see if he does that.

  6. CJ, I can't defend you when you take shots with 17 seconds on the shot clock and your foot on the line, then lose Rasual Butler on the other end.

  7. When was the last time someone broke a backboard in the NBA? Is it even possible anymore? If it is, Blake Griffin will do it sometime this year.

  8. Derrick has been getting foul calls today, which is nice to see. Taj, not so much.

  9. Ronnie Brewer has been really solid for the Bulls in the 2nd quarter. He's really good at finding open lanes to cut to and moving without the ball, two underrated qualities in a 2-guard.

  10. VDN hasn't really done anything too VDN-ish so far, other than allowing Baron Davis to basically be Ben Gordon. Hopefully he's saving the stupidity for the 4th quarter.

  11. Oh, wait here we go, timeout with 11 seconds left. Let me guess: Baron dribbles around for awhile then jacks up a shot?

  12. That can't be right, the Clippers ran an actual play. Dumb foul by Bogans (wait a sec, it's the 2nd quarter, what the hell is he doing in the game?)

  13. Kurt Thomas with the layup! But no Scalabrine, huh?

  14. That's the 2nd time Stacey has said someone dunking has been "mad at the rim". Also, I thought excessively hanging on the rim used to be a technical.

  15. Scalabrine comes in on a terrible flop by Blake Griffin on Boozer. I really don't want to make it about the officiating, but this game is getting out of hand.

  16. Bulls need to win CJ time in the 4th. They lost it in the 2nd quarter, can't have that happen twice. Also, Ronnie needs to get better at finishing on the break.

  17. God I hate the "sweep the ball past the arm of the defender to draw a foul" move.

  18. So, Taj is out with a concussion, Thomas and Boozer both have 5 fouls. Now seems like it might be a good time to play Scalabrine or JJ at the 4. But you'd rather just have one of them foul out, huh TT? Ok, that works too.

While I'm venting, why has Korver only played 7 minutes so far?

  19. Better question: If you can't get defensive rebounds, why are you in the game at all, Kurt Thomas? I feel a blame game coming after this game...

  20. I take back what I said about Derrick getting calls...

    ReplyDelete
  21. No, Stacey, fans don't think he "came across the body", they think he swiped Derrick across the face. Which he did.

  22. I don't like that all of the last 3 possessions on both ends of the court have involved Kurt Thomas.

    ReplyDelete
  23. So, TT, you wasted a timeout to draw up that? You're making it so hard for me to trust you right now...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Is it bad karma to start writing a blame game post now?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I like how there's 38 seconds left but both teams have 1 timeout left. Both teams using timeouts unwisely.

  26. Great hustle play by Scalabrine. Too bad if the situation comes up again, they won't have a timeout to use (or if, say, the clippers hit a free throw to go up 3 with less than 5 seconds left, they won't be able to move it up halfcourt.) Really there are any number reasons to have a timeout in hand at the end of the game. But you used them all to draw up fadeaway threes for Korver...

  27. VDN will not be out timeouted! No timeouts for the last 30 seconds. This would be refreshing if I wasn't rooting for one team to win.

  28. Also, the Bulls basically have to foul here, because if the Clippers use the entire shot clock, throw a shot up (which takes time) and the Bulls get the rebound, they'll have to go the length of the court in 5 seconds or less. A timeout would help a lot here.

  29. Heart is in my throat right here. Does Derrick bail out TT once again?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ugh. Shouldn't have even been in that position, though.
